Rev. John Smed,
John Smed is the founder of founder of Prayer Current, training leaders and churches across North America and internationally. John Smed’s passion for prayer and mission was born out of lessons learned in ministry. After becoming a Christian in the Swiss Alps community of L’Abri, John (and his wife Caron) adopted a rich practice of prayer, open inquiry and deep fellowship set by this community as a model for his future ministry. He started Grace Vancouver Church in 2000 with his wife Caron. From there, Prayer Current was born, which he is now exclusively focusing his attention. They also started Woodgreen Presbyterian Church in Calgary. In between, John served as the Church Planting Coordinator for Mission to North America for seven years in Atlanta. He founded The Grace Network, which seeks to plant churches across Canada.

Connan is founding pastor of New City Church in Hamilton Ontario and leads the Grace Network Canada, a collection of Canadian churches and pastors that coach, train, and fund new churches and churches seeking renewal. Connan served with John for three years in Vancouver and has implemented the prayer training in his church planting.

“I know of no one better able to train our church in prayer than John Smed.” Tim Keller, founder Redeemer Presbyterian Church
Kingdom-centered prayer is a battlefield…John Smed and his team enter this arena with humility, wisdom and confidence. They teach prayer through a process of praying with reflection, Bible content, and immediate application in small group praying. In Cuba, God is using this training to open minds and hearts to Kingdom-centered prayer, moving prayer from daily petitions to seeing the larger context of God’s Kingdom and will be done. Praying Jesus’ prayer daily trains people to become intercessors in a broken society. And it provides a tool for training others in prayer.~Allen Thompson, President, International Church Planting Center
“There is a spiritual battle for the hearts and minds of young people, and we know that every student needs Jesus. We are on a mission to help students discover Jesus and that mission starts on our knees in prayer. We know this, but we were struggling to implement passionate prayer across our organization and so we turned to Prayer Current to retrain and reignite our hearts in prayer. We have been reinvigorated to put Jesus in the very center of our prayer life, and our prayer life in the very center of our ministry. What a joy it was to have Prayer Current amongst our staff and I would highly recommend their training to all ministries seeking to develop a vibrant prayer life.”
